Here’s volume two in the Nuggets series. Delving further into the Chappell archives we have unearthed musical nuggets from the likes of Roger Roger, Nino Nardini, Roger Webb, Eddie Warner and Wolfgang Kafer. Back in the late 60’s and 70’s Roger Roger and Nino Nardini, under the guises of Cecil Leuter and George Teperino, worked late into the night in their Paris studios. As well as writing lush string orchestrations and fine ensemble scores, Roger Roger loved experimenting with analogue synthesizers and avant-garde recording techniques. Along with their contemporary, Eddie Warner, Nardini and Roger were hooked on funky beats and off-the-wall ideas, often creating extraordinary and enduring music. Meanwhile in the UK, Roger Webb was taking it easy with Johnny Mathis, Shirley Bassey and David Soul. Blending the lounge exotica sounds of the 70’s with funked up grooves and delicious melodies, he recorded music that contained the flavour of the time and had real warmth and character. Shooting forward to the 80’s, Wolfgang Kafer was pioneering the new technology that had evolved. Analogue synths were more sophisticated and digital FM synthesizers, along with the revolutionary Fairlight, offered an even more futuristic selection of sounds to play with.
